Ending Chronic Homelessness
A future without homelessness in Canada is possible. Through Even the Odds, we are helping people each and every day to get housed, stay housed, and regain their health and wellbeing. Even the Odds proudly funds MAP’s Navigator program: an outreach program that helps unhoused patients recover after a hospitalization, by connecting them with healthcare and social services in the community. The ultimate goal is to help people exit homelessness for good. Read a Globe and Mail profile.
Thanks to Even the Odds fundraising, we have been able to bring this innovative program to St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, with plans to expand further to Quebec. Learn about the St. Pauls’ program
Also supported by Even the Odds: MAP’s Transitioning Youth Out of Homelessness coaching and rent subsidy program for young people who have experienced homelessness in Ontario. Watch a short film on this incredible program.

Creating a Healthy Start for Kids
Every child should have the opportunity to thrive, regardless of economic background. With Even the Odds, we are working to end childhood health inequities in Canada through science-based programs with lifelong impacts. Even the Odds proudly funds APPLE Schools: an award-winning health promotion project for children in underserved communities. Kids that grow up in disadvantaged neighbourhoods have a much higher risk of diabetes and heart disease in adulthood. APPLE Schools has been proven to help considerably reduce this risk by helping students move more, eat better, and feel happier - learning healthy habits that last a lifetime. Learn more
Thanks to Even the Odds fundraising, we have been able to launch this evidence-based program at elementary schools in Ontario, and we are piloting a tailored version of APPLE Schools at more schools in Alberta.
In a country where one in five kids live in poverty, the need across Canada is enormous. Our goal is to keep scaling up to reach as many students as we can.

Improving Access to Care and Disease Prevention
Healthcare and healthy food are two of our most basic needs – yet in Canada, some have easy access and others are left behind. Through Even the Odds, we’re investing in innovative ways to create healthier communities across the country. Even the Odds proudly funds MAP’s Our Healthbox program: “Smart” vending machines that dispense free HIV self-tests and other essential health supplies such as naloxone and condoms. Healthboxes reach people where they are at, without stigma or judgement. Read a Toronto Star profile.
Thanks to Even the Odds fundraising, we have been able to bring Healthboxes to communities across New Brunswick, with more planned in Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Also supported by Even the Odds:
• OurCare, the largest-ever initiative to engage people across Canada about the future of primary care.
• Healthy Food Prescription, a research trial to understand the potential of food vouchers (prescribed by physicians) to prevent chronic disease complications among people with low incomes.
• Prenatal Testing Outreach, mobilizing community and public health partners to launch culturally appropriate rapid testing and treatment programs in remote First Nations communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
• Clinique Mauve, a first-of-its-kind health clinic in Montreal designed to meet the needs of racialized and migrant patients who are 2SLGBTQI+.
