It’s officially December and it’s time to kick the Christmas spirit into holiday gear. With school and other responsibilities sometimes we need to find ways to get our children to kick the bah-humbug spirit. One of the best ways to do that is to make time for some festive activities.
Mix these activities with some holiday music and cups of hot cocoa with marshmallows or egg nog and your home will be filled with laughter before you know it.
1. Tissue Paper Window Collage
This project is perfect for kids of all ages. You’ll take great joy from how much fun your kids will have doing this project. They’ll be amazed as the window transforms into a work of art.
Supplies
Tissue Paper in several colors
Clear children’s glue in pen form
Safety scissors
Start by letting the kids rip or cut the tissue paper into different shapes and sizes. After the pieces are ready the kids simply put glue on them and place them on a clean dry window. They repeat these steps until the entire window is covered. The pieces can fit like a jigsaw puzzle or overlap each other.
When the project is complete you will have a beautiful piece of art that looks like a stained glass window. When the sunlight streams through it the colors are amazing. It will fade over time and comes off easily when you’re ready to take it down.
2. Ice Sun Catchers
This one is simple, fun and beautiful.
Supplies
Water
Food coloring
Round cake pan
Paper cup
Ribbon
You begin this unique project by filling an ice tray with colored water. You color the water by adding drops of food coloring. Freeze the colored ice cubes. After the ice cubes are frozen fill a round cake pan half full of cold water. Insert a paper cup into the cake pan near an edge. Put the cake pan in the freezer for an hour. Add the colored ice cubes to the pan and finish freezing. When the water is frozen solid unmold it and pop out the cup. Take some brightly colored ribbon and hang it outside.
3. Paper Snowflake
It just isn’t the holiday season until your kids cut out their own versions of a paper snowflake.
Supplies
Pieces of paper measuring 8.5 x 11
Safety scissors
Begin by cutting the paper in half. Make a square of each half. Fold the now square paper diagonally to form a triangle. Fold the larger triangle in half to form a smaller triangle. Now begin cutting your snowflake in any way you want just don’t forget to leave sections of the fold uncut so the snowflake stays together. Now open it up and enjoy your creation. You can hang them on your Christmas tree, put them in your window or use a fishing line to drop them from your ceiling for an indoor flurry!
4. Caroling
Gather up the family and bring joy to friends and neighbors by singing Christmas Carols on their doorstep.
