Six Tech Gifts for Dads and Grads

It’s that time of year again: the time to celebrate high school graduations and Father’s Day. If you’re still racking your brain to figure out what to get Dad or the new grad in your life, give this list of six gift ideas a browse. Though I’ve divvied this list into a category for Dads and one for grads, all of these gifts will work for both.

Grads

1. UE Roll Waterproof Speaker

This is a great addition to any recent grad’s summer arsenal. This speaker is waterproof and emits sound in every direction, making it perfect for summer camping trips and days at the beach. It also boasts an impressive 9 hours of battery life. For grads going to university in the fall, it’s the perfect dorm room companion with 65-foot wireless range and alarm functionality.

2. Beats Dr. Dre Solo 2 Wireless Headphones

Another great gift for the recent grad, Dr. Dre Solo 2 wireless headphones deliver impressive sound. They are also lightweight and foldable, which makes them perfect for dorm rooms and backpacks. These headphones feature and over-the-ear design that makes them comfortable to wear for long periods of time. They also come in several bold colours.

3. Fitbit HR

For the athletic new grad, the Fitbit HR is a great gift. Whether this is the first fitness device your new grad will own or an upgrade from an existing device, she’ll love that the HR has the ability to not only track exercise but also heart rate. This device automatically tracks steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, floors climbed, active minutes, and heart rate. It displays all of this information on a small display right on the device and also pairs with the user’s phone to offer richer data through the Fitbit dashboard.

Dads

1. Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch

For the Dad who has everything, the Samsung Gear S2 Smartwatch is a great Father’s Day gift, especially if he’s already in the Android ecosystem. The Gear S2 Smartwatch lets users easily share content, including apps, across Android devices. It offers a variety of apps and makes receiving notifications easy. The Gear S2 also tracks activity, including heart rate.

2. Fitbit Blaze

For the Dad who’s more athletic, the Fitbit Blaze might be a better choice. The Blaze was designed to be a fitness tracker first, and a smartwatch second. Like the Gear S2, the Blaze tracks heart rate and activity levels. It also allows access to notifications, such as call, text, and calendar. Though the Blaze has a host of smartwatch features, it’s a fitness device first with features such as FitStar, which gives you step-by-step instructions and graphics to ensure you complete each exercise correctly. The Blaze can track a variety of activities, such as runs, cardio, cross-training, biking, and more.

3. Logitech Harmony Remote 700

If your dad has too many remotes and has a hard time keeping track of which one does what, the Logitech Harmony Remote is the perfect gift. The Harmony is compatible with over 225,000 devices and will allow him to consolidate all of those remotes into one. It has a colour screen that displays commands and favourite channels. What’s more, the Harmony is rechargeable so he doesn’t have to run out to buy new ones every couple of months.
