I’m a big fan of saving money and since I’ve purchased a lot of tech over the years, I’m always on the look out for ways to save on my gadgets. While waiting for big sales like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Boxing Day can be a great way to cash in on savings, you can get some amazing deals on tech items by purchasing refurbished items. A lot of people shy away from these items because they’re nervous about defects and overall quality but for many devices, this shouldn’t be a concern.
A refurbished device is one that no longer qualifies as new. Often, the device was simply purchased and returned, sometimes because of a defect but more often because it didn’t meet the customer’s expectations in some way. In fact, very few returns on tech devices are a result of a defect. In either case, the device is thoroughly inspected and repaired or reconditioned to return it to as new condition. This means that you’ll often get a device that’s effectively new when you purchase a refurbished one.
So what should you look for when shopping refurbished? The most important things to look for are a solid return policy and warranty, which protect you in the event of a defect.
There are a lot of refurbished devices on the market and a lot of great savings to cash in on but here are three items that I’ve found offer the greatest savings with the lowest risk:
1. Laptops & Desktops
Laptop and desktop computers are great refurb items that go through thorough inspection. Since these devices typically carry hefty price tags, refurbished laptops and desktops offer great value.
2. Phones & Tablets
If you’re not married to the idea of having the latest mobile device, purchasing a refurbished phone or tablet might be the right choice for you. Since long battery life is essential for a mobile device, the important thing to look for here is that device has a removable battery. This ensures that the battery was replaced during the refurbishment process.
3. Monitors
Monitors are another tech item you can save on. Again, these devices go through thorough inspection so you can rest assured that you’re getting a high quality device but you’ll pay a fraction of the cost.
Refurbished items are a great way to save on tech, which can come in handy if you’re buying tech items often. As a small business owner and father of three teenagers, buying refurbished has certainly helped me save a lot of money over the years. So next time you’re in the market for a new device, consider a refurbished device.
